Natsuko Miyamoto releases her first solo album "NAMAMI".
Natsuko is the Vocalist / Bassist / Songwriter of the Japanese alternative trio MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS (aka MOTFD), which have a strong following not only in Japan but also overseas.
Songs from NAMAMI (meaning ”flesh-and-blood", "living flesh" in Japanese) were written during MOTFD's hiatus in 2012. Natsuko started recording sessions in Summer 2015 and some songs were posted on YouTube and performed at her solo gigs.
(MOTFD was restarted in Dec. 2015)
On this album, she plays acoustic guitar and sings with a mellow, relaxing and friendly feeling, in contrast to MOTFD's loud, heavy and sometimes shoegazer sound.
The songs from NAMAMI additionally include a wide variety of musical styles by which Natsuko was influenced, such as her favorite artists hide (from X-Japan) and Smashing Pumpkins (a 90's alternative and grunge band). They also include a cover of Number Girl's song "Delayed Brain", and her own version of MOTFD's song "Slow-motion replay", which was released as the band's first new song after years of hiatus.
Although she's originally the bassist, her solo work shows a wide range of sound in response to current female singer-songwriters such as Julien Baker and Julie Byrne, and indie pop artists such as Waxahatchee and Frankie Cosmos.
